Refocus Technique
For all my over-thinkers out there…
This is one of the most powerful techniques in my arsenal. I've used this to manage almost OCD level intrusive thoughts in a past (unhealthy) relationship, to overcome a debilitating fear of lead climbing, and to help move forward on hard tasks.
We over-thinkers have the skill of fantasizing, it just trends in a negative/future-tripping direction.
Changing course is like shifting a marble out of a grooved path...it's not easy at first, but when you wear down a different path with enough repetition, the marble can easily change course without added effort.
So now, when you recognize that you're ruminating (focusing on negative thoughts or the past/future or whatever else it is that's giving your power away), make a conscious effort to shift to fantasizing about what you love or what you want more of in your life.
Create a cache of 3 go-to fantasies or positive memories you'd rather replay when you catch yourself in a negative thought pattern.
To give you an example I typically have one around work (my passion and main manifestation focus), sex (my easiest go-to, great for calming anxiety and fear), and one that involves envisioning my most powerful sensual self (where I build my confidence and playfulness).
Feel free to daydream your cache memories too when you're not refocusing from negative patterns!
It will help you access them more quickly in times of need...and you may find yourself drifting off to experience the more pleasurable imaginings instead of future tripping without making the conscious switch.
